ECTRIMS Patient Community is a year-round initiative dedicated to connecting people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) and related neurological conditions with trusted, up-to-date scientific information. Organised by ECTRIMS, the world’s largest professional organisation dedicated to MS research, this platform serves as a trusted bridge between the scientific community and the global MS community, ensuring that scientific progress is shared beyond the congress halls and into everyday life.

Through educational resources, expert insights, and collaboration with more than 40 patient advocacy organisations worldwide, ECTRIMS Patient Community aims to empower individuals and caregivers with reliable knowledge to help them better understand and navigate their MS journey.

Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month 2026

This month at ECTRIMS, we are shining a light on the strength, resilience, and collaboration that drives the global MS community forward. We are proud to work alongside more than 40 Supporting Partners of Patient Community Day — a diverse network of patient advocacy organisations and institutions dedicated to supporting people living with multiple sclerosis. Every day, these organisations provide trusted information, practical resources, community connection, and vital support to individuals and families affected by MS.

Patient Community Day Impact Report 2025

Patient Community Day — ECTRIMS’ flagship annual event for people living with MS and related conditions — exists to ensure that the people living with MS, NMOSD, and MOGAD are equipped not only with information, but with agency. Our goal in 2025 was to create long-term, system-level impact by:

♥ Empowering patients with accessible, actionable science: From research breakthroughs to emerging therapies, biomarkers, and rehabilitation insights, PCD helps patients understand what new discoveries mean for their daily lives. In 2025, 95% of participants found the programme relevant, while 79% plan to use the information with their healthcare teams — a clear indicator of real-world impact.

♥ Strengthening global partnerships and community infrastructure: Our 2025 network of 40+ Supporting Partners across 17 countries, double the number from 2024, demonstrates the accelerating momentum behind a more unified global patient community. These partners amplify access, drive local engagement, and help ensure that PCD’s legacy extends far beyond the one-day event

♥ Expanding equity and representation across continents and communities: PCD 2025 welcomed its first Supporting Partner from Africa, broadened faculty representation to 10 countries (up from six in 2024), and delivered AI-powered translation in 50+ languages, ensuring that knowledge not only travels globally, but lands meaningfully in diverse communities.

More Resources from Patient Community Day 2025

Patient Community Day was held on 26 September 2025 at the Barcelona International Convention Center and online.

This annual event, designed for people living with multiple sclerosis and related neurological diseases, and their caregivers, allows them to stay updated and be involved in the advancements being made on their journey towards managing their conditions. Importantly, this information was communicated directly from experts in the field, who had spent the previous four days engaging with the latest developments at the 2025 ECTRIMS Congress.

Lived Experience Panel

The Lived Experience Panel invited people from around the globe to share their personal stories and highlight the ways in which they are actively shaping research. Through patient advocacy, working with national and international organisations, and taking part in registries and clinical studies, each speaker demonstrated the crucial role of patients in the research process.

In this session, our seven Expert Panellists dove into various “hot topics” – defined as those topics that matter most to people living with MS and related conditions – from everyday challenges such as cognition, to breakthroughs in biomarkers, genetics, and artificial intelligence.

PCD 2025 included an Ask the Expert segment to give remote participants around the world more time to pose questions directly to expert neurologists. Topics covered included diet and the microbiome in MS, the impact of perimenopause on MS. ageing and MS, and the impact of co-morbidities.
