Shining a Light on NMOSD: Join the GJCF Pre-ECTRIMS NMOSD Practicum— Blog post

min read

When it comes to neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), knowledge is power — not only for researchers and clinicians, but for patients and families as well.

At this year’s ECTRIMS in Barcelona, the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation (GJCF) is proud to host the Pre-ECTRIMS NMOSD Practicum, a unique programme designed to translate the latest science into real-world impact for patient care.

What to Expect

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Hilton Diagonal Mar in Barcelona, the Practicum will bring together leading experts in NMOSD for an evening of highly interactive sessions.

The focus is on practical strategies that healthcare providers can use immediately to improve care.

Highlights of the agenda include

  • Relapse Adjudication & Rescue Therapy – understanding how to assess relapse severity and select the right rescue treatments.
  • Transition to Approved Therapies – insights into therapeutic decision-making and treating special populations.
  • Monitoring & Mitigating Adverse Events – strategies for laboratory screening, infectious disease risk, and long-term safety.

Each session combines expert presentations with open discussion, ensuring that questions and real-world challenges are addressed. [Download not found]

Why It Matters

For the NMOSD community, progress in research and treatment must always translate into better care. Relapse prevention, treatment transitions, and long-term safety are not abstract issues — they directly affect quality of life. By equipping clinicians with deeper knowledge and practical tools, the Practicum helps close the gap between science and patient experience.

A Step Toward Patient Community Day

The Pre-ECTRIMS Practicum is part of a larger commitment to making sure NMOSD is represented at ECTRIMS. Just days later, at Patient Community Day, patients and families will have the opportunity to connect directly with researchers and clinicians. Together, these events reflect a growing movement to ensure that the NMOSD voice is heard, respected, and acted upon.
